Achievements
2024
You will find an overview of our latest activities in 2024 in the activity report available for download below.
From 2016 to date
Foot care and emergency medical assistance for elephants in need and at the end of their lives.
Raising awareness among the media and authorities about the cruel treatment inflicted on these animals.
Cleaning and refurbishing the precarious and unsanitary shelters of more than 30 captive elephants (shackled with chains) exploited by hotel owners who offer their guests elephant rides.
Installation of running water for 21 of them to improve their living conditions. This region of Nepal is marked by extreme climatic conditions: during the summer, temperatures can exceed 45°C and are accompanied by oppressive humidity. These conditions make the work of captive elephants all the more grueling. Access to running water is therefore vital, not only to hydrate them after their relentless efforts, but also to cool them down with showers. These essential measures help regulate their body temperature and prevent serious health problems associated with extreme heat.
Raising awareness and providing training on best practices for managing elephants for owners and mahouts of captive elephants used in tourism, promoting their welfare and ethical treatment.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, a food aid program has been launched for captive elephants facing starvation following the disappearance of tourism.
Welcoming terminally ill elephants to the sanctuary for dignified end-of-life care.
From 2014 to 2016
Construction of enclosures with electric fencesâboth to prevent outside intrusions and to allow elephants freed from their chains to move within this perimeterâin collaboration with the NGO Elephant Aid International, which supports various elephant projects in Thailand and Nepal.
2014
Donation of USD 14,000 by the Moey Association to Lek Chailert’s Elephant Nature Park in Thailand for the purchase of land capable of providing a peaceful refuge for several elephants that have become aggressive as a result of abuse.
