THE SHOCKING TRUTH ABOUT ELEPHANT SAFARIS IN NEPAL

WHAT THE TOURIST DOESN’T SEE

The treatment of elephants for tourist safaris in Nepal is extremely shocking.
The elephants are beaten, starved, overworked, neglected and exploited on a daily basis until they die a painful death as a result of horrific conditions and abusive treatment.

DYING IN AGONY

After a life full of abuse, this female elephant died in tremendous pain and miserable conditions, leaving her baby behind.

THE FACE OF OSTEOMYELITIS, IN A TERMINAL STAGE

Osteomylities is an extremely painful disease caused by the elephant being forced to live and walk on unnaturally hard surfaces, immobilized in chains when not working, with poor diet and poor husbandry.

DISRESPECTED EVEN WHEN DYING

After years of abuse, being overloaded with tourists, this female elephant collapsed due to dislocated hips.
She was left suffering for weeks before she died in agony.

THE GOVERNMENT: NOT A SHINING EXAMPLE

This old tusker belonged to the Nepalese government.
He had suspicion of a broken leg but no support structure was provided to relieve his pain.
He died suffering.

EXHAUSTION, OVERLOADING AND TORTURE

This elephant is overheated and exhausted. No water or rest is provided.
She is having trouble walking, the heavy seat on her back is leaning heavily to one side, making things even worse for her.
In order to make her walk faster, the mahout beats her mercilessly.

MAHOUTS AND ELEPHANTS, MIRRORED LIVES

This elephant is in tremendous pain with an infected foot and a swollen leg.
Her mahout forces her to walk for exercise as he thinks this is in her best interest.
He has no bad meanings and tries his best, but the elephant owners are unwilling to provide the needed resources which makes it impossible to take proper care of the elephant.
